One-to-one support
Our one-to-one support service is free and unique. We recruit and train volunteers – who are usually parents themselves – to visit local families in their own homes. As a Home-Start Aberdeen family you will be carefully matched with a volunteer whose skills and experience best fit your own situation and challenges. Your volunteer will offer informal, friendly and confidential support.
Your Home-Start Aberdeen volunteer will:
- Visit your family on a weekly basis
- Provide friendship and practical support
- Help with setting and maintaining routines and boundaries
- Support you to be involved in your child’s early learning and development
- Help you to be a more confident and capable parent
- Help with your family’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing
- Help you connect with other families and explore your community
- Accompany you to appointments
- Access information on other organisations for you, such as health, education or financial advice
I have been so grateful for the help and support received from my volunteer. Life has been so difficult and without her support, caring and kindness I would never have managed to get through these difficult times.
How to get support from us
Any who lives in Aberdeen and has at least one child aged under 5, or is expecting a baby, can come to us for help.
